Default Cost of living: US vs Canada

I was trying to find website comparing Cost of living between Toronto and cities in California, but couldn't.
Can anybody help me? I'm wondering if we make for example $100,000 in Toronto, how much we should to make in Califormia to have the same quality of life

Montreal and Toronto are vastly different in terms of cost of living - Montreal has higher taxes but housing is much more affordable - cheaper rent, cheaper real estate, cheaper groceries, cheaper restaurants, etc. Toronto's one of the most expensive places to live in Canada outside of Vancouver.

I think Quality of Life is better in the Toronto area than any California city. Cost of living in San Francisco, Oakland, San Jose, Los Angeles, and Santa Barbara will be higher than anywhere in Canada. Orange County, San Diego, and Sacramento may be cheaper but not much.

One major myth about the United States vs. Canada is that our taxes in the United States are lower. This is not true. Canadian federal income tax is siginificantly lower than the US', but your provicial taxes are high, but still not high enough to have a higher overall tax burden. The United States also has other higher consumption taxes like sales taxes, luxury taxes, etc.

If you are an American citizen you won't however owe income taxes in the U.S. unless you work in Alberta. Taxes in Canada combined with provincial taxes exceed the federal tax rate, therefore you won't have to pay the U.S.

I personally love the United States and love California, so I would choose California even if I could make and keep more in Toronto. But, truthfully you'll most likely find Toronto less expensive to live in, despite the myths out there.
