Much like anywhere you go to live the cost varies. All that considered and a fair idea of what items generally cost, is 3500 dollars a month enough to live on for a family of five?

That depends on where in Canada you want to live in, the costs for certain things can vary widely, depending on the part of Canada you are in. For example, when I lived in Ontario milk was $3.50 for 4 liters, here in Nova Scotia I pay $6.99. But housing is cheaper in NS than Ontario. So it depends. If you were to move to where I am living that would be a good amount, but you would have to travel to the city to find a job that would pay that.

What do you do for a living? If you do not mind me asking.

Belinda,
I left then realized I did not mention where I was looking to live. By the time I came back you replied. Anyways, I am interested in the Calgary area or to the west of there. I have always wanted to live near the mountains and have opted to focus there first.

To answer your question, I manage a dog boarding kennel ( for 3 yrs now) but worked as a on site supervisor for home builders for nearly ten years previous to that. Housing bubble considered I am currently working on what might be called a portable income, although I do miss building. I understand jobs are scarce most places but if I could land something with my background that would be great.

Long story short that is where I am initially looking and and what I am currently doing. The 3500 was (I hope) a conservative estimate.
