Default If a referendum is held, will Canadians approve union with USA ?

If a referendum is held ( peddled by right wing parties, probably),will Canadians vote YES for uniting with the USA ,either as 1 state,or -better- as many states as its provinces...
By union I mean full union,as with Alaska & Hawai

I voted yes, because I believe that a strong propaganda in favour of USA,would be succesful.

My guess is 52-55% of Cans would say YES to union with USA in a referendum...

I vote no because Canada would get swept into the capitalist nation the US is and our identity would be ruined, and life wouldn't be so nice again. I do however.. see California separating from the US in the near future.

You wouldn't get more than 20 or 25% of Canadians to agree to something like this.

Rightly or wrongly, most Canadians truly feel they have built a "better America" here, and the propaga... er, promotion of that idea is quite ubiquitous.

Macleans is super liberal... ask the natives, real natives, if they feel wealthier etc. Really the snobbery is so predictable.

As long as CA takes all the loser actors/actresses who use their fame and complete lack of education to influence their audiences and fans, then they can go on to being separate altogether. The state is bankrupt and in trouble all the time. And you'd think those dogooders Angelina Jooooolie and braaaaad PITT would bail them out. Or perhaps maybe Tom? Curse?

Indeed. But since the Liberals have been in power for about 34 of the past 46 years, their vision of things tends to dominate, often by sheer osmosis. People who aren`t necessarily Liberal/liberal even get convinced since it is so pervasive.

By natives, I take you don`t mean aboriginals? They are a tiny fraction of the population. Yes, their situation is dire, but I am not sure if it worse than that of aboriginals in the U.S.

As for the rest of the population, whether they are wealthier than they would be in the U.S. is not really a question that is asked that often.

I think that if most people gave it some thought they would acknowledge that they`d be richer if they lived in the States, but that there are other things in the U.S. that they don`t like (or things in Canada they wouldn`t want to give up for the extra cash).

Canada would never join the US.

Your best chance though would probably be in Alberta, or if you can manage to annex the city of Toronto--

I think you'd find that the Provinces that would potentially have enough votes to carry a separation would have more taste for total independence than becoming part of the US.

Geographically it would never work anyways. There is no way that the American psyche could deal with Canadians having an equal say, never mind the fact that the huge size of each Province dwarfs each State. (with the exception of Alaska)
