I've lived in both Toronto and Vancouver and I prefer Vancouver. Don't get me wrong, Toronto was fantastic and has so many opportunities, but I'm a west-coaster at heart

Both have their good points and bad points ....I would give the edge to Vancouver ...both for climate and amenities ....traffic is bad in both cities ....and Vancouver has the beautiful coast mountains in it's back yard .....here are 1971-2000 Environment Canada averages to compare the two cities in degrees celisius ....

VANCOUVER (downtown)

JUL 26 / 18
AUG 25 / 17
SEP 21 / 13
OCT 14 / 7
NOV 7 / 2
DEC 2 / -3

As you can see Vancouver is much milder in winter than Toronto and has an earlier spring ....but Toronto has a hotter summer and nice fall

For fans of fahrenheit ....here's equivalent temps ....

VANCOUVER

Default Vancouver mega quake

What about Vancouver's potential to be hit by a mega earthquake from the Cascadia fault zone offshore? I've never been to Toronto, and I love Vancouver, but the thought of a Richter 9+ on the coast isn't pleasant. Must give Toronto a slight edge in that regard.

I guess what doesn't make sense is why is Toronto's population several times larger than Vancouvers, yet this poll has almost an inverse result.

Maybe since the land is flatter it's cheaper to develop.

I just thought of something, Toronto is not really prone to any significant natural disasters.

*We get earthquakes but they're so weak I've never even felt them. A truck driving down the street makes more vibration.

*We can get very heavy rains from hurricanes, but almost none of the wind. Our worst one only had sustained winds around 40 mph.

*Tornados are also almost a non-issue they happen in Ontario from time to time but usually much further inland, like 30-50 miles at least. Our worst tornado near the Lake was like an F-1, close to an F-2. Tore one or two roofs off and vanished.

*Major forest fires are near impossible in many parts of southern Ontario.

*Mosquito populations are very light in the Toronto area, even in bad years; spend a whole night outside and you might get a half-dozen bites.\

*We never get enough snow for the city to shut down for 24 hours.

*Flooding for the most part is also a non-issue; only people who built on floodplains have a probelm. We have steep and tall river valleys, usually 20-150 feet and not more than a half-mile wide. So there's lots of land not in a floodplain.

I don't know about much about Vancouver, but I hear they get landslides, major earthquakes, possibly forest fires and the outskirts get bear or mountain lion problems from what I've heard.

Montreal gets more snow as well as significant earthquakes because of the St. Lawrence River.

I suppose if you made a similar poll, like who would prefer to live in either NYC or Honolulu you'd probably see similar results.

(I'd pick Honolulu for sure )
