I need to drive through Canada from Michigan to Boston in a week or two and don't have a passport. I have my Social Security card, birth certificate, and Michigan Driver's license. Will I be able to get in and out of Canada?

It doesn't look like you need one to get into Canada, but it is strongly recommended. Crossing back into the United States will be difficult without a passport.

Edit: I just looked noticed that Michigan issues the enhanced driver's license. You might be in luck!

As Mike said, you don't need the passport to satisfy Canada; it's the US CBS folks who require everyone, even US citizens to have either a passport or enhanced ID.

If you can't arrange to obtain an acceptable piece of ID before your trip, you may have to change your route.

It is like that old Eagles song "you can check out anytime you like but you can never leave". Yes, you can get in maybe but you will not be allowed to re enter the USA.

Do not enter Canada if you dont have a passport to get back into USA,failure to heed the warning will result in the biggest headache of your life.
Drive south to I-80 or 90 to go east..
