First, I just wanted to thank everyone for their sympathies and kind words. I may not know any of you personally, but it really does mean a lot. It has been very tough knowing that there is nothing that I can do for my dad (medically speaking).
Updating on my dad's condition, he is to the point where he is in bed the majority of the time each day and only gets up to use the bathroom or watch a little TV. He can't keep any food down except for some liquid forms of food and stuff like Jello. All the waste that his liver can't process he vomits out and this occurs several times a day now. The whites of his eyes and his skin are the classic yellow that you typically see as a result of the disease. He is under Hospice care now (at home with my grandmother i.e. his mom) and the nurses have been coming to give him aid twice a week now, but soon will probably be coming more often.
His doctors say that there isn't anything that they can do at this point because his liver is far too gone and even if a new liver was available, they couldn't perform the operation to give it to him because of his blood disorder that prevents him from clotting properly. If they could operate on him, I would give my father my liver. I know that that would kill me, but I would do that for my father.
Anyway, thank you again everyone. To those who have family members that are currently suffering from cancer or other horrible diseases, my heart goes out to you. I definitely understand what you are going through.

I understand what you're going through. My dad had AML leukemia; they could not do operations on him because he would bleed to death. The way we found out he had the AML was because he had a prostate biopsy that he did not recover from. Some how; it was not picked up in the blood work he had done; thankfully it did not rear it's ugly head until a few weeks later; we thought he wasn't recovering from the anesthesia. Had it been full blow during the biopsy; he very well could have passed away then.
Is there anything they can do to ease his suffering; such as a medically induced coma? I've heard it done in one case at another board I go to.
Had hospice brought in a portable potty? They can also bring in a hospital bed; wheel chair & a bar that attaches to the bed to help lift him.
To all who expressed their sympathies, thank you so much. It really means a lot. I just got back to TX from MO. and after about six days of helping my grandmother take care of my father and getting to spend a little time with him, he passed away on the 8th of this month. I miss him so much.
He did pass peacefully and I was there with him. I does help me feel better knowing that he is in a much better place and not suffering any longer. It was incredibly hard to see what the cancer was doing to him. For the rest of my life, I will do everything that I can to help people with not only liver cancer, but ALL types of cancer. I know that my father would be proud of that and I will continue to live my life, but look forward to the day that I will be reuniting with him in heaven.

It has been very unbearable for her at times. Thank god I was strong enough for her when she needed my support (especially at the service that we had for my dad). My dad was a wonderful man. I couldn't have asked for a better father. This has left me with a major hole in my life that will never be filled, but I will still be there for my grandmother and I will probably pursue counseling and support groups for several years to help myself deal and come to terms with my father passing.
