Today my wife, my sister and brother in law went kayaking up the Missouri River. 5 miles up stream, against a strong current. Ate lunch at a marina then back down stream. It was an awesome day.
My sister is a survivor of breast cancer. I am getting back into good physical shape again.
Kayaking sounds like so much fun! Definitely something I want to try - I keep eyeing the REI sea kayaking trips along the coast but haven't been able to make it work with my schedule/budget yet.
New roommate moving in today after a little drama with the last one (her husband threatened to call his lawyer over our demands that she pay the 2 months in utilities that she owed us - ended up settling for half of what we were owed just to get it... the couple is twice my other roommate and I's age and the husband alone makes more money that the two of us combined! We just want money for the electricity that she used. Crazy people.). New roommate has a 45 gallon fishtank that I am psyched to have in the house. Then heading up to Maine to see my brother's new house and celebrate Labor Day.
My 2 year remission mark passed by a few weeks ago without me even noticing - progress!
I have a final interview when I come back from vacation about a position I really want. They already called my references (who reported back that they were very complimentary) and I know the VP I will be meeting with, who others have called "my fan". Still in the same university, but managing ALL university social media with the added bonus of working on a web rebranding of the school. Wish me luck! More money, more power, and much closer to what I ultimately want to be doing!
And I was accepted to an MS in strategic analytics program, beginning classes next week! Strategic analytics is essentially big data (in my case, focused on digital media), with an emphasis on making that data accessible to businesspeople and clients.
Wow charo lots of good news! Congrats on the cancerversary passing without notice, that sounds so healthy. So you are going for your masters! That's awesome! How long is the program? Are you going to be able to balance it around this potential new job? You are so ambitious, I love it!
Thanks, everyone! Had my final interview with the SVP of communications this morning and got the official offer 15 minutes later! The salary is a little lower than I'd like (shooting for 15% more than I currently make), but I was able to negotiate working 10-6 which will help with my commute and gas costs (an hour and 15 in stop and go vs half an hour). Going to work on some salary negotiation to try to get an extra few thousand on Monday - but will take the job regardless.
AND the SVP (my boss's boss) came to my university 6 months ago after years managing communications at a cancer center - so all involved know my history and are beyond supportive and understanding. Since my ultimate goal is to work in digital communications in a cancer center or other hospital setting, I couldn't be around better mentors.
Everything's coming up charolastra! To top it off, I have an interview on Sunday to get a place on a niche Birthright trip just focusing on the cities in Israel. Birthright is a free 2 week trip to Israel for young Jewish adults between 18-26 - so I only have a little more time to go! Hopefully shipping off in December.
