My mother died of end-stage vascular dementia but she was on a lot of morphine to ease her breathing. I sat with her 12-14 hrs/day although she was mostly out of it. In a way, it's good your mom is doped up as it eases her fears. Sorry for your family.
I just got back from visiting mom. I believe they got the pain meds sorted out, as she was more alert today than she's been in 4-5 days. She ate a few bites of lunch and had her eyes open and was listening to all the conversation around her. Her interactions are limited, but at least she was aware and comfortable and "in the loop." That is probably the best I can hope for now.
She is somewhat disoriented -- doesn't know what day or time it is, and if we were there already today or not. I guess that's the drugs -- or is it the cancer?
I'm so very sorry, Sweepea, that your mom and you and your family are going through this. It's so heartbreaking to see these things happen to someone you love. I'm glad you found a good hospice. Godspeed.
I'm so very sorry to hear about your Mom <tears>. It makes me think about my Mom who I lost to Cancer too. I recall taking her out for ice-cream and we sat in front of the ice-cream shop in the car <tears> But when I took her out, it made her forget her pain she was in. Even took her to the grocer <more tears> and back then they had a type of wheelchair cart that held her oxygen. She was able to reach for her items she enjoyed, like raisin bread. I also chose Hospice and they really helped us a lot. I really didn't know what they stood for and did, but because a friend of mine used them it was a good choice for her care. I know how hard it is, so hang in there~!
