I developed lymphedema in my arm- my dominant arm. It was set off by the radiation treatments. I have pain on a regular basis in the arm from repetitive motion. My job depends on my ability to work on a computer 8-10 hours a day and the constant typing and mouse clicks are aggravating it, leaving me in pain.

I am trying to find ways to minimize or stop the repetitive motion, such as dictation software to write emails and reports, wearing my compression sleeve while working, trying to adapt to using a mouse with the opposite hand.

Does anyone else have any tips or tricks to help that I may not have thought of already?

The dictation software is probably your best option. I had to use it some years ago and it was easy to customize for my field. I used Dragon Naturally Speaking, but that was 12 or so yrs ago and for a different reason.

Realtors are welcome here but do see our Realtor Advice to avoid infractions.

Yes, the "dictation" software helps but doesn't alleviate entirely the need to use a keyboard or mouse and I do a lot of scrolling, copy/paste, creating charts and presentations, etc. activity which is why I am looking to others with the condition to possibly give me tips of things that worked for them .

My non-dominant arm is disabled so it's slower going with the mouse in that hand. If I'm under the gun with a deadline sometimes I have no choice but to use my dominant hand/arm and then I'm taking rx pain killers just to get through it.

I would suggest talking to your therapist. He/she could probably make good suggestions. My mother has very little discomfort most of the time. She wears her compression sleeve regularly and uses her pump/messager daily. She is seamstress and functions pretty well. No pain pills needed.

My PT has no advise. Half of what I found out I found from other sources- not my PT.

My oncologist says it's normal for me to have pain and discomfort considering my work. He said that I need to stop when I start feeling discomfort and give my arm a break. Easier said than done considering I need to produce if I am going to keep my job and pay my bills.

The mod can close this thread since I am not getting responses from those who actually have lymphedema. While I appreciate the comments made I was really looking for tips from those with the condition not second hand experience. I'll go to a site more specific to my needs. thank you.
