As a parent, it is quite difficult to sit idly by while you see your child (no matter what the age) making a choice that might be detrimental to them. THAT is why parents try to figure out the different options for helping their child (yes, even adult children) have the resources to make wise choices.
After talking with a Naturopathic doctor, being afraid of false positives and radiation, and believing I was low risk, I decided to wait until 45 to have my first Mammogram. Well, years flew by and I just got my first Mammogram at 49, and it turns out I have Breast Cancer.
The cancer is small and not aggressive (or so they believe so far), but it is invasive, which I think means I could have caught it before it invaded, so I wish I started having Mammograms earlier.
As a side note, I did not have Breast Cancer in my family (until me ),so I think they were not as concerned about waiting until 45 as they would have been for someone with a history of it, plus I think I was about 44 when I decided.
I did see some websites with information about when to have a Mammogram with pro's and cons and also things to consider, so might be useful to try some of those? Also, if your daughter is worried about pain, I didn't think it hurt too much.
