Hi guys,

2 days ago I found a huge lump in my breast. The next day I had a sonogram done and they actually found 3 lumps and the huge one had blood veins running through it.

The radiologist called it a birad category 4 and told my doctor I need to have them biopsied so I go back Monday to have the biopsy done.

Have anyone of you had this? Any info would be great.

Thanks!

My friend had lumps and the all turned out to be cysts. Sit tight, Roma, and take lots of vitamin C.

You must be terribly frightened! I haven't experienced any of this but I know having a biopsy done on your breast is very common so I'm sure you'll gets lots of good info. I do know of such a thing as a needle biopsy which may be less invasive. I hope that it all turns out to be nothing for you. Hang in there!

Hi there Roma,
I have had 2 biopsie done and while they are no fun, it's not all that bad. The absolute WORST part of it is the uncertainty. The fact that they found 3 lumps makes me think it is cysts.... I will keep you in my thoughts and hope that it is all benign!!!!
By the way, my Mom just had her first biopsy done a couple of months ago, also benign.
Sending you a bunch of hugs xo

BIRADS, which stands for breast lumps imaging reporting data system, is an attempt to standardize the reading and reporting of mammograms. There still is subjectivity because each film is read by a human being, who must look at various features and decide what they may or may not mean. According to something I read on the internet, “Radiologists will error on the side of being alarmist in order to be sure that things are followed up properly.”

BI-RADS O -- incomplete assessment.

BI-RADS 1 -- negative findings (within normal).

BI-RADS 2 –- benign.

BI-RADS 3 -- probably benign.

BI-RADS 4 -- suspicious abnormality, biopsy recommended.

BI-RADS 5 -- highly suggestive of malignancy.

just to let you know, both my "lumps" were in the 4 category, but were still benign!
