Total misinformation in the above statement. There is a huge difference between processed sugar and "carbs".

Vegetarians have the lowest chronic health disease rates and just about the highest carb intake of anyone ( a plant based diet will almost always have as majority of calories from carbs). There is about 60 years of research showing that a vegetarian diet is the healthiest diet. The health studies done with the Seventh Day Adventists (who have a high percentage of people who practice a plant-based diet) showing less risk of almost all chronic diseases, including cancer, is one example of this:
