year 2015, I had a brain tumor, I never knew I had it until I fell down. My wife took me to ER. For years I had headache, but that headache goes away after I eat breakfast. So I always used to tell my self I am dehydrated and not eating correctly.
At the hospital I had brain tumor surgery it was meningioma, I was told it was a benign tumor.
Now year 2017, I just took MRI and doctor said tumor is growing back. I need to go for radiation. First doctor she said I need low radiation. Second doctor said what I need is high dosage of radiotherapy. But they both said lets wait until Sept and take another MRI then we will plan accordingly.
I am seeing third doctor to find out his opinion. My question is since first one was benign, now it's growing can the benign tumor become cancerous?

Any one had radiotherapy ? Please let me know.
Thank you so much.
I'm not a physician and certainly not a neurologist or oncologist. But perhaps some of us can help you to formulate some good questions for your third opinion consultation.
Did they take out the entire meningioma the first time or was part of it left behind because it was involved with brain/spinal cord structures?
Are they waiting to do another MRI so they can assess the rate of growth of the tumor? Meningiomas are typically slow-growing, from what I've read. Or is there another reason for them to wait?
If I were you, I would find a university hospital medical center and a doctor that has the experience and background to treat your tumor. University medical centers are known for up to date, and comprehensive research and treatment, as well as being a teaching hospital for interns and residents. I would seek out the head of the neurology dept first and get his/her opinion.
This is just what I would do. Former RN years ago.

You have two top cancer hospitals in NYC or nearby: Sloan Kettering and the Mayo Clinic. One of the doctors you saw should be able to answer your question.
Just because a tumor is growing back doesn't necessarily mean it's become cancerous. Benign tumors can reoccur (especially if any part of the tumor was left behind during the original surgery). But some meningitis can become locally aggressive, and a few can become outright malignant. I agree with the suggestion to get a second opinion at a top regional medical center. And ask questions until you understand what all your various treatment options are!
^^^That should read "meningiomas" not "meningitis." Stupid spell-check!
