Pancreatic Cancer
Hi ya'll,
Mu future father-in-law has been recently diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer. He was diagnosed in Feb, and will be undergoing treatment in the next 10 days or so. He recently was told he has about 2 years to live.
I'm curious to find out if anyone has experienced a family member or themselves with this?
Also, to note - his mother and father both died of the same illness. Is this hereditary? Does my fiance need to start getting screened now? I don't know much about it but am currently researching along with posting here.
I think based on the little I do know that giving a 2 year window is a little positive, as I'm understanding it's pretty much a very aggressive and fast moving cancer.
Any insight is greatly appreciated....

Please do send your future husband in for a talk with his doctor, I would give the doctor as much information as posible, such as the type of cancer his Father has and the types his Grandparents died from. The more information your doctors have the better.

I wish your Father in law the best, I do hope they can do more for him the just give him a number of how long he has to live. I also hope he can be comfortable and enjoy the time he has left. My heart goes out to your family that you are dealing with this.

Along with his Oncologist's care i'd research some of the Cancer fighting foods that have a powerful effect on Cancer like the Brassica foods i.e. Cabbage, Kale, Brocolli, Brussel Sprouts, Onions and Cauliflower as these foods have powerful Phytochemicals that stimulate certain Enzymes and Immune Cells to fight it.
Secondly i'd research about Whey Protein as it is the best food on earth to raise Glutathione levels do to it's high high Cysteine in the body which is the master Antioxident in the Human Body which raises all the trillion cells defenses to fight cancer and to repair themselves.
Third i'd research about high doses of Vitamin-C (Up to 10,000 mg daily or to bowel tolerance) as this raises Interferon levels in the body which is a powerful Immune stimulant.
You can Google all these things i've mention if thats an interest along with his Oncologist care on this battle. I'm not saying that certain foods by themselves can cure Cancer as i doubt that but i'd add everything to the arsenal to fight this disease. I wish him well in this battle.......

Thank you for the above. To that I'd add research the foods that promote healthy liver function. The health of the liver is idirectly tied to the body's immunity. Check a book called "Liver Cleansing Diet" by Dr. Sandra Cabot, MD. She has a good section on foods that are harmful to the liver, or make it difficult for it function well.
No matter what the illness (or state of health), it's very important to marshall the body's own resources and defences.
Also, depending on how your relationship with medical team goes, and treatment programs outlined, you might want to check out Cancer Centers of America for a 'whole person' approach - medical, mental, spiritual, none of which should be ignored.

Thanks to all who responded. The father this is regarding has unfortunately not been a part of our family since remarrying and it's only now that he contacted his son. He's one of those "I'll get to it" people, just goes to show, you never know how long you have so take care of things now.
As for my fiance, I'm already on my way to help him now begin to get healthier in light of his fathers recent diagnosis. I have time on my side right now as my fiance is young (31) and myself am a big advocate of cancer fighting foods, I juice quite often with veggies and fruits just for the detox purposes and overall good feeling I get from it. I'm hoping this will be a wake up call for my fiance and realizes that he needs to start making better choices now. Thanks again to all.

I new next to nothing about Pancreatic Cancer when my father was diagnosed with it in Feb 03. He became sick on a Thursday night, we thought it was some type of flu. He seemed a little better on Friday, and then by Sat morning it seemed to get worse so we took him to the ER. They admitted him and told us Sunday morning not only did he have Pancreatic Cancer he was in stage 4 and had several months to live. He passed away 10 days later. It progressed very fast and we still do not understand how he got to stage 4 of this terrible disease without knowing he had it. He was already under a doctors care for diabetes but we were told Pancreatic Cancer appears out of no where and progresses even faster. The actor Patrick Swayze is undergoing chemo for his, and I saw him on TV this week. He looks pretty good for someone with this disease, so maybe there is hope. I wish you all the best.

I am not sure if Pancreatic Cancer is hereditary. With my luck it probably is since both my parents were diabetics, and I have been one most of my life. Seems like I have inherited every condition they had. Thats me though, ask your doctors and whatever research you can do on your own on this subject. I don't think that everyone is going to get Pancreatic Cancer if their relatives had it.

I just thought of the NIH web site ''Clinical Trials.gov'' where maybe he can enter into one of the ongoing clinical trials of new medicines for this disease. It shows 620 studies going on all thru out the country right now.
Search of: pancreatic cancer - List Results - ClinicalTrials.gov
