Who tends to have the cheapest insurance in CA? I need to find the cheapest rate & my current coverage is up later this month. I currently pay $100/mo & there's 4 mos that I'm allowed to skip paying the month (May & June, Nov & Dec).
Tell you what, find a multi-company insurance underwriter and let the agent do the work for you. If you are a AAA member, you can take advantage of their underwriting service.
Some well-known insurance companies actually do provide better claim service. And charge higher premiums. But if the only insurance you carry is the legally mandatory liability insurance, you don't care how good their claim service is, because they only pay benefits to somebody else. But if you want to cover your own casualty (collision and comprehensive), it might be worth paying a bit more in premiums to an insurer who won't jerk you around.
There are plenty of cut-rate insurers around, but I've been told that on the bottom line, their basic rates for minimum legal liability do not differ much from each other. Watch out for lowball insurers who offer a great rate the first year, and then steeply raise your premiums in subsequent years.
What you do have to watch for is to make sure they are discounting your premium for everything you are entitled to. Premiums can be discounted for miles driven, age, driving record, safety equipment, etc. Plus bundling discount if you have other non-car insurance with the same insurer. Switching insurance carrier rarely saves you any money if you have already built up some discounts after so many years of coverage.
