Yes, my insurance company said to contact the other driver's insurance company. (Not mentioning any names, but the other driver's policy is from a company whose mascot is a reptile.)
So I have unknown problems with my truck which may be as a result of being rear-ended by a car traveling roughly 25mph. I have the accident report, the name and policy number of the person who hit me, and a truck with no visible damage (but the check engine light is now on).
Still looking for the best procedure for initiating a claim in this scenario, where the other driver is at fault.
If YOUR insurance company will not help you, then find someone else. They can at least tell you what you need to do in this situation. Go to AutoZone and get a FREE scan that will narrow the problem down to a few possible issues.
