We currently use geico, which is the cheapest in the area where I currently reside... However we will be moving to CA and I called to get an estimate and the price doubled

For those in CA, can you recommend a car insurance company/agent? TIA

USAA if you qualify, otherwise just price shop online. Rates are all over the place and vary by zip code, you can't buy insurance through this site but it gives you some idea of rates for various companies in California.

Shop around.

Quotes ranged from $8,000/yr to $1,500/yr for me. My current insurance (AAA) remained the least expensive, so that's who I went with. I've been happy with it.

How long have you been using Geico? I have discovered that the longer you stay with an insurance company, the better your rates are. For instance, I have been with State Farm since the late 90s in New Jersey, and now Michigan. When I relocate to CA next year (or sooner), I will stay with them for continuity and better rates.
