Tracking is just another 'Big Brother' operation, collecting info about you. If they are offering a discount for this then tell them a competing insurer is offering you a lower rate without the tracker and you're considering switching.

So much hate on these trackers on this thread. If you ask any one, any driver on the road, if they are a good driver, each and every person will say YES. People deny wrong doings when driving, and blame the other person. Someone above complained about the Liberty Mutual tracker going off when a vehicle speeds up 0-7 MPH in under a second. They must have had a reason they chose 0-7 MPH and not 0-10MPH in under a second. It could be a reason you don't know, and it's likely a reason LM won't tell you, and they don't have to tell you. Decline the tracker if you don't like it.

Everyone says they're a good driver. The tracker is requesting to see that. If you don't want them tracking you, decline. Pay the higher premium, or switch companies. Insurance companies have a responsibility to charge the appropriate premium as they see fit. If these trackers help them, they are entitled to ask if you will have it in the car.

People saying they wouldn't use it. That's your choice. But if someone can save 25% or more on their premium, I'm willing to bet more people than not will be willing to drive like they were taught to for 3 months to save a few bucks.

I did. I called my current company said I'd gotten a lower rate quote, and asked what they could do to keep my THREE policies with them. I was able to [get lower premiums for all policies -- add an umbrella policy -- and still stay hundreds below what I was paying before.

Sweet! Glad everything worked out for you, and you got to keep the same carrier you had before (especially if you've been happy with them).

I'm cheap so I'd do it just to save some $$$! I don't see how it's a real invasion of privacy. If anything, it could potentially help you... I know my ins co asks me "approx how many miles do you drive? How many of those are highway miles?.. Etc" and I give estimates. If there is a way they could get accurate figures to customize a policy for me, that'd be great! But considering you have to drive more at night idk if that would hurt you.. Did u let them know about your schedule?

I had a company car with a tracker. It's not worth it. I drove over 80 once, they knew instantly. My manager got an email...then I got one too. You don't know for sure what they use.

Average MPH? Top peak MPH?

And 5% discount is a joke.

As far as I know, tracking is never used against you, at least with any of the companies I write for. The discount though is minimal. Its as high as 30% (almost never, perhaps for an older married couple that drive 1k miles per year or less), but the average discount is like 8-12%.

Who cares about them collecting info? Your company probably insures millions of people and its not like Gollum is sitting in an office observing your personal info.

ok, so I am now 67 days into my 90 day period. In that 67 days, I have had one hard brake caused by a bunny rabbit jumping out in front of me (no kidding, the rabbit is fine btw), zero rapid accelerations , no 12-4am driving and a total of 950 miles (annualized 5176 miles which is lower compared to the average miles a person puts on a car each year). Most of it was city driving. My discount so far: 21 percent. But in reality that is only 11 percent because I received a 10 percent discount (of an already marked up premium probably) for signing up to do it. Is it worth it? I suppose any amount of reduction in premium is good, but driving paranoid for 90 days is quite annoying. Oh, and do not be fooled, this does tend to make you run lights because you are so fearful of a hard brake. I guess they want you to slow down to 10 mph every time you approach a light so be prepared for a lot of tailgaters because you are going so slow approaching lights. Also, it seems quite ridiculous that you get penalized for a hard brake when someone cuts you off or pulls out in front of you but folks that is how it works. Finally, I sure would like to hear from the person that received a full 30 percent discount - my contention is that it is impossible and has never been done.
