My 25 YO son is on my policy and drives a "family" car. With his new job he will be given a company car. I am selling the "extra" family car and plan on dropping him from my policy. Does he need personal insurance or does the insurance on the company car cover?
I was unsure if "cars" are insured or the "drivers".
In my experience, cars are insured but insurance companies want to know the licensed drivers living at the address.
If you would loan me your car and I had an accident your insurance would cover it (unless I was an excluded person listed by your insurance company. My oldest son was excluded for awhile on my insurance policy due to tickets and a couple accidents. He then had to get his own insurance rather than piggybacking on my policy).
I would hesitate getting rid of the extra car if that would mean your son has to (if he doesn't have his own car) depend on the company car. Can he use the car for personal transportation? If not, then what will he drive?
Outside Sales for a "national" company where he can use the car for personal travel for a small per mile fee. Most guys throw in 125 miles for a month. No need for a second "personal" vehicle.

If he lives in your home and has a license, he will have to remain as a secondary driver on your policy. Every drive in a home, related or not is considered as a possible driver and their record affects your rates. This may vary by state, but is the way it works in the 2 states I have lived in.

Does he live with you? It sounds like it but it wasn't explicitly stated.
Normally adult kids are insured on their parents cars (and vice versa) but they want to know who lives at the address, as it changes the equation if they're only borrowing it on holidays or if they live there.
I know my dads agent asked for a copy of my lease to prove I was elsewhere.

The company is obligated to insure a car they own and he will be covered if he is involved in an accident.
It would be a good idea for him to get a hold of their policy and find out what the liability limits are, what the uninsured motorist limits are, and what the underinsured motorist limits are.
