Hey everyone, I am shopping around for insurance on my first car (I'm 16), a 2017 Mercedes E Class and I just did a quote on liberty mutual's site and after all the discounts its $1830 a month, this is absolutely ridiculous! Before discounts it says it was 3609 A MONTH. Thats 1800 a month with the highest deductibles and 25k per person and 50k per accident (Minimum in my state). What insurance will charge a teen driver with a semi nice car a normal rate?

1800 a month for an average Mercedes, not a damn Ferrari!!!

2017 E class is not average.

You are 16, male and high risk.

Check Progressive so you can what other insurance companies will charge it.

Any reason your parents wont allow you on their policy?

Are you even able to get insurance at 16 without a parent?

How's your credit? I'm assuming that the answer is non-existent. Have your parents add you as an authorized user on one of their credit cards, ideally the oldest. There's nothing like being a 16-year-old with a 20-year-old credit card that has perfect payment history.

Unless you live in CA, MA, HI or now Michigan, your credit is a factor in your rates.

Really, you're not going to get good rates from Liberty Mutual unless you get the affiliate discount. You have to belong to some group like the UNLV alumni association to get their best rates.

Find an independent agent in your area to run you through the normal 6-12 he has. Add onto that State Farm, Allstate, and Geico. See what happens.

Your parents bought you a Mercedes but won't pay the insurance?

It depends on the state, but in most states the parents would need to co-sign because a 16-year-old driver cannot enter into a legally binding contract.

you should probably reach out to a local insurance broker/agent and discuss with them any possible ways to get a reasonable insurance premium.

Try mercury if they are in your state.

Otherwise just shop around. If you live in Michgian you could become a teacher or marry one and get MEEMIC. They are thousands cheaper per year for us. (Cut about $00 a month out of our insurance).

Of course I just realized you are probably a kid or immaure adult playing around and made this up just to see hwat response you get. . . .

First of all, no 16 year old kid should be given a car.

Second of all, if you were given a car it shouldn't a Mercedes. Start with a 15 year old clunker.

Have fun with your insurance bill.

Weird. I think every 16-year-old kid should have a car. But, I do agree that a Mercedes is a bad first choice. Something like an old Geo Storm or a 2000 Ford Contour would be my choice.

A nice and expensive car with a kid driving is a disaster waiting to happen. You are a high-risk waiting to lose money for the company.

Another reason is you are not their target market. What that quote is telling you is WE DON'T WANT YOUR BUSINESS. We are going to price you so high, you won't contact us. This company is design for a married household in the 30s, with a house, and a nice income. You aren't there yet.

Progressive is a company that deals with your market, younger drivers. But don't expect it to be cheap in that car.
