I am 48 years old. My grandpa is 98. He lives down the road from me. Twice a day, in the morning and in the evening, he jogs for 2-3 miles each day. I get so scared that he is just going to collapse while running. Is this even normal for a man this age? He used to run a lot when he was younger. Am I just freakin out?

If this is a serious post, let me just say that at his age you may as well accept the fact that he's not going to live forever and it's better that he dies while doing something he wants to be doing.

98 and running, how wonderful. We have two over 90 year olds attending our exercise classes to stay active. I would be so happy that I was born from such good genes and congratulate him. A person like that would be interesting to talk to about there life.

My father is 77 years old and he runs every day. Yesterday he told me that he had run 10 kilometers (as he lives overseas). So I assume he will keep running as long as he can. I don't think you should worry about your grandfather.

I have had several relatives in their 90s walk several miles per day for exercise but I personally do not know anyone that old that can actually jog that far every day.

I agree with old cold. If he enjoys it and can do it, three cheers for him!

I"m thinking you should run with him. You'll live longer and be healthier.

Goes to show you......don't let anyone ever tell you what you can or cannot do. People get old sometimes because they want too.

Yes, you're just freaking out...At 98 he should do whatever he wants, and how nice hat he can.
He must be a great inspiration for you...he's amazing.
better he "collapses" when out enjoying the fresh air than dies in a stuffy hospital drugged up and unhappy.

As far as I am concerned, once you reach 90 apparently you have figured out how to maximize your life span and no one needs to tell you how to live your life. Some doctor tried to lecture my 94 year-old aunt about eating too many eggs and drinking her coffee with actual cream. She asked him how old he was and that ended that conversation.

I don't think your grandpa is crazy... I do think you are overreacting.
It's fantastic that he can jog 2-3 miles!
We have a very dear friend who turned 99 last week. Last year he decided he wanted to visit us. He lives on the east coast and we're in the Colorado mountains. It was something he had wanted to do for a long time, and he didn't want to run out of time. His words: "What is the worst that could happen? I suppose I could die... but I am going to die anyway!"
His doctor checked him out and declared him "good to go". His daughter flew with him, they spent a few days at lower elevation and then he came to our house at 8300'. We had oxygen on hand just in case he had any problems breathing. I think he took one "sniff" before he walked up a few flights of stairs. He was absolutely fine. He still talks about his visit to this day and it's something I will never forget.
