I don't know if this is the right place for this but I figured it might be because of the prognostic of hubby.

It appears or if more certain he has shingles around the eye, and we were a little too late ( within the 48 hour window) that the viral meds would work. He has acute flame up around his eye and on his head and is already suffering extreme itchiness and pain sensitivity.

His doctors have told him that this seems very acute and to be prepared for intense pain, we even have a plan to go to after viral meds don't work.

There is a real chance that he could go blind on that eye and also that he will have years on intense pain PNG nerve damage and we are just now trying to figure it out.

For those of you that managed cancer patients or folks with extreme pain, can you give me any advise? I know what is going to happen very soon and how very dreadful it will be for him, he is going to go through a very bad 20 days if we are lucky and a horrible more if not.

How do you care for someone that is going through huge pain and still provide comfort when you love them and hate seeing them suffer?

I developed a case of shingles a few years back. This is what I did:

-I took Geritol liquid vitamins and B complex
-I drank a mixture of apple cider vinegar, honey and cayenne pepper with a little water added. I drank this mixture a couple of times a day.
-I made a paste of cornstarch, olive oil, cayenne pepper and apple cider vinegar and applied it directly to the blisters.

I did all this plus took the medicine I was prescribed. My shingles were gone in a week, they did not spread and the scar it made on my face is completely gone.

There are creams to relieve the pain where the bumps occur. A cold pack will also relieve the pain and tingling. Get lots of sleep and rest so that the body can fight it off. I've had pain and breakouts in later years after the initial outbreak in 1987. They were mild and short-lived, but they're unnerving (no pun intended) or unsettling since it's like being stuck with pins. The first case of shingles was the worst and also caused fatigure.

My wife got shingles in the face and eye area about 7 years ago. They had to send her to a specialist at UT Southwestern who made eye serum drops from her blood. To this day she only has partial vision in that eye.

He needs a specialist.

Thank you I will do anything in my power to make his pain less, I hope and pray we have the same outcome.

We went to a a highly respected eye doc this morning, he is the one that spot on told us it was shingles and how bad it would be., we later confirmed it with his other doctor. His Eye doc has ME his care taker to be viligrnt as well as his wellness doctor about certain reactions since this is odd to both. Both are a bit unsure about him and if this infection crosses over then we have a bigger problem.

The best case is that he Doesn't have the dreaded worst case shingles but he has something else , auto .....,best he has this and he will suffer. We are in a really hard place right now.

It'll last 1 to 2 weeks. The bumps may take a few more weeks to clear. Stay home and rest during the acute part of the illness if you have fatigue. Wear loose-fitting clothing if the bumps are in the normal area of the right side of your chest and/or back. Some say not to pick at or pop the bumps because it'll spread. Since the body is always infected with the chicken pox virus, this seems to be an old wives' tale. EDIT: It's probably still a good idea to avoid popping the bumps as it'll avoid scarring. Having a breakout indicates your immune system was probably weakened at the time, due to other infections (dental, perhaps), fatigue (my case), or stress. You could try vitamins B, C, and lysine which aid the immune system and the nervous system.

I'd certainly try Lysine. It sure works on my cold sores.

Heard it does lessen shingles also.

I had shingles in my eye at 30. White of my eye was completely blood red. I caught it within a few hours of the first blister. ( I had just started an antibiotic and thought I was having an allergic reaction to it, so I was at the doctors fast)

Get to an eye specialist immediately - the best you can find. Shingles is very painful and I was told to take Tylenol every 6 hours. It worked for 4 of them.

The good news is that my eye is fine. No vision loss at all, so be hopeful.

I hope he heals completely. Please let us know.
