Once auntie became wheelchair-bound, we took her out of the AZ facility and brought her home with 24/7 private care. It was 1/3 the cost of her AZ facility (NC).
Or move her closer to her relatives that live within an hour of her currently. She can keep the same doctors. Her husband stays in the same ALF. And the siblings and whoever else can share the load or oversee a home health aide. It's best to have multiple relatives involved in the care and oversight of eldlery parents. You never know what's going to happen when one sibling gets control over the financial situation.

Mom has mental health issues and WILL NOT allow outside caregivers into her home. She can't even tolerate a maid service. Additionally, she has been emotionally abusive to my dad, so we will never allow him to live with her again, regardless of circumstances or expense.

My brother has been carrying the weight of this for 15 or so years. He needs a break!
You might also get a lower cost for care where you are. The skilled nursing facilities cost about $850/mo in Northern Virginia. I noticed the home health agencies charged $150-190/hr for nursing and therapy. For a nurse's aide, it's probably $50-75/hr.
