A few neighbors got familiar with Dad's wanderings. Unfortunately, one of them died in August, quite young. Dad rarely wanders now. His hip usually hurts before he gets more than a few yards from the door. He doesn't like the cold either.

That's a rare downside of modern medicine. There is no reason for us to hang on until we're living corpses. Length of life now trumps quality of life, more's the pity.

Some people just live "so goddam long" naturally. My Grandfather lived until 96, never went to a doctor, never took pills, he just lived. He never ate junk food, didn't smoke, kept active, but the real reason he lived so long was in his genes. His parents both lived until 98 & 99, in good health all the way, not living corpses. I certainly hope I haven't inherited those genes, my assets will have all run out long before I do!
