The point, is that taurine is not only available in animal brains. It is produced in the intestine..and is present in muscle tissue (and yes, brain matter). You don't need a chicken's head to get taurine, and you don't need to add sea vegetation to get taurine (it's in there too). You CAN get plenty of taurine by grinding up the small intestine of a cow, for example. The etymology of the word itself, "taurine" is based on the latin Taurus, because the scientist who first identified it, found it in the bile of an ox.
To clarify, taurine is produced in other animals. Cats can not produce their own taurine, and that is why they have to get it in their food, usually by supplementation, because as the other poster (tilli) stated, the processes to make the food destroys it.
With all that has been said, and clarified, and chewed over, (lol YA gotta have a sense of humor here or ya'll go nuts!) supplementing with Taurine is an absolute must. There is no way around it. Cooking destroys Taurine. Grinding destroys Taurine. And cats cannot produce Taurine in their bodies.
Got Weruva yest but she doesn't like it yet. Having to add Wellness yet to it. Keep you posted...
Keep in mind, that Weruva consistency is totally different from most other cat foods. What I did with my one, I took a tiny amount in my fingers, and actually put the food in his mouth. After the first taste, he was set to go.
