My "kitten" (who is now three years old) has a permanently cold wet snotty nose but she is 100% fine as I just had her checked out at the vet and he confirmed lungs are clear, eyes are clear, she's very bouncy and full of life. As Nudge had a horrendous URI when I first got her I always keep eyes and ears open for possible reoccurrences so it doesn't hurt to be a little paranoid.
We got our first pet (an adult cat from the animal shelter) about three weeks ago, so this is all new to me. I noticed today that his nose is running. Should we take him to the vet for that, or is it a cold that will go away on its own?
thanks!
UPDATE: This is the OP; realized a while ago that it is DROOL , not a runny nose. He drools when he is happy and I thought it was a runny nose. Made me laugh when I figured it out.
I figured as much. We used to have a cat named Boyfriend who was a drooling fool. When he shook his head, it was like a spit storm. We all would run for cover. Thanks for the update and glad your kitty is well.
Beau is like that. He sneezes, has a snotty nose, and needs to have his nose wiped for bogeys, like a little kid. And now, he is 15. He has always been this way. I have taken him to the vet, I thought maybe it was a problem with his teeth, and $700 later, he still sneezes. His nick name should be "snot nose brat".
Once he was sitting on my ex husband's chest, and sneezed right in his face, gooky cat boogies everywhere on my ex's face, and in his moustache. I could not help it, I laughed...priceless.
Milo had very severe upper respiratory issues when he was a kitten....the rescue actually almost put him down because he was so sickly with no signs of improvement and costing a fortune. Well, my husband and I decided to take him on despite his issues and they were so bad. We had to use little noses drops for him when he was really bad because he couldn't breathe, he always ran a fever. The problem with the constant use of antibiotics was that his system was getting used to them. Anyways - he is a few years old now and still has issues because of all the scar tissue in his sinuses...and he breathes like darth vader...but he is the sweetest baby I've ever had.
That is probably why Beau has had ongoing respitory issues, he was a rescue kitten too. And. Very sickly. He is fine now, except for being a little snot nose.

Yep - I'll be you're right!
