This is interesting, because my new cat, Jasper, does not jump on the counter at all. He has not gone up there once. I wonder if he was trained not to, because he just has no interest in what is going on up there at all.
Perhaps. But for years I had a cat never jumped on counters. Didn't interest her I guess. I got her as an adult and I asked her previous owners if she jumped up and they said she never really did.

You are LUCKY!!! Brady is a REALLY good, sweet cat...except for this. I can't seem to get him to stop.
If you try the ssscat system I mentioned in my first reply, be sure to let us know it it works.
Have you seen the videos for that??? Is it mean that I couldn't stop laughing? I really think that is what my stubborn cat needs, thanks for the rec. I will let you know how it goes.
My calico is never on the counters during the day. I used a spray bottle-to which I think I trained her?
But-when I get up in the morning why are there cat hairs on my counters??
They are too funny-we think we have them trained-but I think it is the reverse! They are way smarter than us!
That's why the cat needs to believe the counter is an unsafe place to be. If the consequence is from a human, the cat learns, "My human will squirt me/make noises at me if he sees me jump onto the counter." That's the wrong lesson.
If something bad happens as a result of jumping on the counter with no one around, the cat may conclude that jumping on the counter is not a safe or comfortable activity. Something noisy is good; double-sided tape might work, too.
Thanks for the suggestions!!! These are great if I see him in action, but he does it when I am not there, too. It doesn't help that his foster mom kept his food on the counter because of dogs. It is such a hard habit to break, though!!!
My older cat (Casey) NEVER jumped on counters until we got our very bad siamese kitty(Libby). Now they are both on the counters. Our siamese is so bad. She never sleeps. She is a very bad influence on the older cat. I have no idea how to stop the counter problem. I do not think anything would stop Libby...she is sooo bad!!! Its a good thing she is cute and we all love her!!!
I keep spray bottles all over the house and have trained mine not to scratch furniture but they don't pay any attention to me in the kitchen.
I also feed them on the bathroom counter cause of the dog so maybe they think a counter is a counter. doesn't bother me too much. a little cat hair adds fiber to the diet.
