The cat I had years ago used to be all about dragging "prey" (think like a leopard with a deer.) He liked to get a scarf or even better, a sock, and drag it all over the place, with his head held high and the item pulled along under his body as he walked. He never once tripped on it.

And I had combat boots...they looked the same to me, but for some reason the right one was more fun. ??? The cat would sneak attack it and try to kill it and play with the strings...got so that ONE boot was a mess of scratches and the other one not.

Then we discovered the pouf-balls. A cat specialty store had them, but they were just an overpriced variation on the fuzzy crafting balls you can get at any arts and craft stores. Got to be the big ones, at least golfball sized. My cat went absolutely mad for those things...but of course they always wound up under the couch and appliances.

Also I'll never forget the one time I tried to read the newspaper classifieds on the living room floor. I have no idea why a surface covered in crinkly paper needs to be thoroughly KILLED...but it seemed so. About the 3rd or 4th time I felt eyes peering from a clever hiding place under the coffee table, and the cat made his mad dash out to slay the paper, I surprised him by putting my hand up really fast in his path and yelling "YAHH!" at him. He jumped like 5 feet straight up, did some fancy acrobatics, and then vanished for a good 20 minutes to recover his dignity.

Your cats are fine...so far.

People need to know that pony tail ties are not safe toys for cats, because cats can and do ingest them, causing terrible blockages resulting in pain, surgery and sometimes death.

It does happen. And there is an easy way to prevent it. Keep the pony tail ties and rubber bands (and "bread ties" aka twisty ties) away from the cats.
