For feel-good stories galore all you have to do is spend some time on Pet Microchip for Dogs and Cats | HomeAgain Pet ID & Recovery Service There are tales there of pets who were MIA for years only to be reunited with their humans.
Even in this very forum you can find plenty of stories to bolster hopes. Not only are there some about my now-departed "cat about town" Weasie. Others also begin with fear and despair only to end with elation and relief. What stick out in my mind the most are the ones from "marylandkitten" about the wayward Little Moo, who once vanished for four weeks at the nastiest time of year for weather and again for much longer. These creatures may get disoriented or confused but they sure aren't stupid.

It is amazing how some of them find their way home. Our neighbor's at was gone for about 8 months and suddenly, one day, appeared.

That's right! My little moo was gone, got out twice. The first winter, one of the worst winters Maryland has seen in over 70 years - she survived, and was just over a month gone.

The second time she got out, she had me tied up in knots for almost 6 months. From early october, into the next year, if I remember correctly. Cats are very resourceful creatures.

...then they waltz in like they'd only stepped out for a few minutes.
