When we adopted our most recent kitten, we (OK, I! ) agonized for almost a week considering lots of possible names before I finally came to the realization that nothing fit her better than the first name we considered for her. If I may be so bold, Sweetheart has already been named.
Could be- I like all everyone is saying...I will run them by my daughter tonight and the kitty and see what fits.
This is more of a Rorschach test telling you more about each of us than helping you name your cat.
It's so funny how people can all look at one cat and come up with names that are cutesy, exotic, "commanding respect," silly, etc.
Our newest cats is a puffy long-haired torti-colored cat names Bessie. We look at her and thing "she's a silly goofball" but friends look at her say things like "I think she owns you guys" or "she looks like such a spoiled diva." We all project ourselves onto them I guess.
I'll never relate to the people who name their cats cutesy things like Mitsy and Boots. Or those who give them prissy names like Sheba and Tiffany. Or those who give them historical or literary names like Cicero, Dickens, Churchill, Vonnegut, or Ghandi. Or the pop culture names of famous people, like Durante, LaToya, Britney, Marley, Utley, or Gretsky.
(those are all actual cats I've known)
We give ours names like Fletcher, Norman, Mabel, Dudley, Herbie, Millie. I'm sure those other people could never relate to the names I picked either.
I'd stick with Sweetheart. That was your first inclination and the first one is usually the right one.
My cats all have human names: Tammy, Stella and Annie but I end up calling them Sweetiepie, Pumpkin, PooDidley, Precious Pup (even though they are cats) Snookems and several other terms of endearment. It depends on my mood and on their's, too.
