OMG he is so cute. I'm glad to hear you are taking him with you Please, please, please make sure where you move to that he is allowed to live with you before you make any commitments to moving back home. I don't know if it's your own apt. or your parents but please make sure you always have him living with you. That would be traumatic for him and you if you couldn't have him always live with you more than the actual moving could.
Good idea Lindsey trying out short trips with him to get him used to the car with you. It will make the trip much easier on him. That way too you will know if you will need to give him a sort of natural kitty downer for the trip home. Wow what an amazing experience to have saving his life with your love the way you did IMO you two were meant to be together.

My friend and her cat Annie went all around the country in her RV and Annie (a teeny orange Persian) would sit on the dashboard like a bobble doll sort of. It is almost ten years later and they still are the best of friends. I say, you have found your friend.

Take him, it'll be okay. We drove from Portland OR to Pennsylvania in the fall of 2009, with three cats and 15 rodents (in carrier cages) in a compact car. Two of the cats viciously hated (still do) each other, and one of the cats is just plain insane. It still went fine, and after getting to the new house, the cats acted like nothing had happened.

wait, does she have a blog? is her name wendy? if so i have followed her blog for years....
and to the above poster who said that i should make sure i will have him with me and not have to give him up- oh, absolutely. when i had a dog, me and my husband were homeless for a few days because we REFUSED to get rid of our dog. no way, hell no! and i will be staying with my sis, who has a cat, and she has wanted to get her a kitty companion. frodo is used to being around lots of animals and loves new people, so i think he and doolittle (my sis's cat, who loves me) will get along just swell! after that i plan to get my own place, but he will be in good lovin' catpeople hands til then! i will keep you guys posted on our trip- i thought about making a wee movie out of it as my uncle wants to come and drive across with me too, so it should be a trip (in more ways than one!)
thanks for all the positive affirmation guys. i really appreciate it!

Definitely take him! Especially if the owner is OK with it.
I drove from GA to CA with my kitty too - and we're driving back to GA in April. He was fine with the ride. And I loved having him with me.
You're so lucky to have a kitty that loves you so much And he's lucky to have you too

oh, cool! its so good to hear from people who have done the same thing. and the owner is definitely ok with it and credits me for loving him back to health. my friends call me the cat whisperer
i hope it won't be too rough on him, hopefully he will be so happy to be with me that eventually it will erase from his memory like a bad dream. i have been talking it over with him, his purr is so loud it sounds like a weedeater under the blankets : )

Aww, that's so cute! Sounds like you have no choice but to take him
My kitty is very low maintenance - he doesn't mind car rides at all. He can wait to use the bathroom until he has a chance too, as well, so that wasn't a problem. I once flew to Germany with him, he held it for 12 hours!
During the cross country ride, whenever we stopped at a hotel for the night, he spent a couple of hours exploring the room - a typical kitty Then he hopped in my bed. Just make sure you put him in a carrier while you're driving.

You were Chosen, pure and simple. I'm glad the decision has been made and you will not break the bond. Good luck to you both in your travels. Read up on traveling with cats. Keep him contained in a carrier at all times except when you are in a motel room with him. Never ever leave him loose in the motel room when you are not there. Don't leave him loose in the car either.
Get him microchipped if he isn't.

I'm so happy you've decided to keep the kitteh! He's precious and he loves you, so you're his now.
I used to take my first kitteh on car trips all the time. She loved it. Loved it, loved it, loved it! Especially when she could stand in my lap with her front paws on the armrest and shock the heck out of people in the cars next to us.
I put a litter box on the floor in the back and she'd actually use it! And she was harness-trained, so it was easy to take her out whenever we'd stop, so think about trying the harness thing with yours, as well.
YAY!
