Hi Everyone,

I have heard that there is a cat cafe in New York City in Brooklyn, but I've been unable to find it. Does anyone know where it is? I would love to go there. My husband's daughter is allergic to cats so I can't get one.

Thanks so much for passing this along. I checked out the video. The cat cafe is a different concept. The cats stay at the cafe and customers come in to visit and pet the cats! Sounds like fun, doesn't it.

I found this reference to "Cat Cafe of Williamsburg" Cat & Kitten Adoption Event today! (http://newyork.craigslist.org/brk/pet/2289378785.html - broken link) but it's not clear at all that there's an actual cat cafe in the Tokyo vein. When I narrowed the search to that full name with quotes I got almost nothing. It does have an address in that listing for the adoption event though. It's possible that there is a cat cafe or possible instead that they've simply used that name for a cat supplies store or other sort of establishment. I found that at least a couple of Brooklyn bars/eateries were named "xyz Cat Cafe" as well, with nothing at all to do with cats.

If you find out it really is a cat cafe, let us know! That would be cool to be turning up here. For those who have not heard of this concept, it's been popular especially in Japan for several years, although it apparently originated in Taiwan. Japan really loves their cats but in dense areas like Tokyo it can be difficult to keep one as a pet. Here's a popular article from a couple years ago Tokyo's cat cafes offer serenity in the city - CSMonitor.com and Wikipedia if you like Cat cafe - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Take your own coffee and danish and head out to the nearest cat shelter... pet and play to your heart's content.

Funny, I haven't asked, but I figured that would be frowned upon, unless you want to sign up as a volunteer. Although that's not a bad idea of course, volunteering.

Greg,

Thanks for your response to my post. I have searched the Internet and found the same site that you mentioned in your post. I read about this cat cafe in my alumni magazine. Perhaps it hasn't opened yet.

Months ago I heard that a cat cafe was going to open in L.A., but as of yet there's nothing. I would definitely check out a cat cafe, at least once!

Neither is making a donation to the shelter for the privilege of spending a few hours playing with the kitties.

The shelter we donated to likes to have volunteers come in to socialize the cats -- spend as much time as you like with them. This shelter welcomes as many people as their small rooms can hold at any one time, so that the cats get used to a variety of people.

Worth a try.
