Yes, things were "different" back then. People still had the right to keep and bear arms without gov't infringement like the 2nd amendment says we can.
Then came gun control and the morons who support it.
However, I digress from the heroism of a young 9 year old boy who is what this tread is supposed to be all about.

Well, you did bring up your youth, and too bad a kid like him wasn't around when a poor cat was shot dead back in the good old days.

Yeah, quoting my own post. Does anyone else find it odd that the kitten was going up for adoption so early?

Lots of upset here about Tightwad admitting he shot a cat at age 12. I’ll jump in since he has mentioned the 50’s and he is apparently near my age (60’s) and I remember what it was like. “Back then” most boys had a knife in his pocket, often before puberty. Also, for those old enough to remember, every Christmas little boys received cowboy outfits, a holster and a pistol with caps to fire. Also, boys were given BB guns and it wasn't long until they were trained with a real rifle. Times changed and toy guns were history.
What I saw growing up was that most people just didn't give a sh*t about cats except for the cats being mousers. Don’t forget that Tightwad started the thread with praise for the brave little boy, expressed sympathy over the death of the kitten, told you what he had done as a child and how he was punished (a father being angry about the shooting of a cat back then was a rarity), that he has his own feline loved ones and would deal harshly with anyone causing them harm. I’m the same about my cats. No one gets in my home and near my cats unless I know without a doubt that they are truly kind to animals. In fact, if I ever need to kick ass about cat abuse, I’d like for Tightwad to come with me.
Back to “back then,” there were boys and girls who did no harm to animals and loved and appreciated cats and dogs.

Kitty_FL, I did mention a "different era" in one of my posts. Heck, I had a BB gun and was strictly told that it was for shooting tin cans, bulls-eye targets and the like. The thought of shooting neighbors' pets was something I couldn't imagine. As far as Tightwad is concerned, I'm more upset with his "S.O.B" father than anything else. Perhaps the father's own guilt was part of the reason he went wallop on his son. And as was said before, maybe he should have been mowing lawns along with his son.

Yes, since it's injuries were so serious. Any news on the sociopath who did this?

off topic a bit.....
" he was punished (a father being angry about the shooting of a cat back then was a rarity)"
What made dad angry back then was that I fired the gun in town where a human could have been hit and against his strict instructions to shoot it only in at the city dump outside of town and only at the rats there.
Looking back dad was right since a .22 LR can carry almost a mile so in town shooting was both very dumb and dangerous. I shudder to think what would have happened if I missed and hit a neighbor.

Should have just shot at birds...my sons all killed birds...they just could not help killing things with their guns, it must be a "man gene". My daughter was satisfied with cans, bottles, target practice...not boys...but even if they do stuff like that...my kids are not mean, torturing psychopaths. And they would have never killed a kitten. Just ugly crows and sparrrows that were eating all our cherries, strawberries, and peaches.
They probably knew that shooting a cat would have meant that they would have to find a new home.
