Is this feasible & possible? One vet I spoke to yrs ago claims not needed. But I'm not sure that cats, like humans, may need occasional boosts vs toxins in environment, second hand smoke (like my neighbors), car pollution in the air when windows are open in house, household chemicals (tho I use hardly any), etc.

Does anyone have a view on this or info from a vet?

I saw a vet on tv talking about cat care (I wish I could remember his name) and the host asked him why is it that 30 years ago, cats seemed to be indestructable - you could feed them any old thing, and they'd live forever and there never seemed to be a need to bring the to the vet - but nowadays, they seem to have so many health issues and they need special foods, etc.

The vet basically said that it was because those cats were cared for that way, that we now have cats with more fragile immune systems. The cats we have now are the product of the generations of cats fed on Meow Mix and Friskies, which is like having McDonalds for dinner for your entire life. When you think about how cats are bred for certain characteristics or behaviors, it's almost like we bred them to be unhealthy! I don't know about anyone else, but it was kind of a lightbulb moment for me to hear that!

So I guess we're paying the price now! Expensive pet food, expensive treats and supplements, expensive vet bills! I don't know specifically about anti-oxidants- the focus seems to be mostly on immune support. But it doesn't sound like a bad idea!

There you go... then add all the pollution and toxins in all the food and water they consume and you can see why they're so prone to illness and an early death. The best thing is to get them off dry kibble and onto a decent canned food.

Well you guys, I only feed ONLY both Weruva & Soulistic Chicken flavor -- that is it, so I hope she's getting antioxidants from either cans. I have no idea. Wellness Chicken had all the blueberries, cranberries, zuchini, etc. but don't think cats can absorb them, yes? Plus Wellness is a mess w/ recalls/concerns, etc.

Yes, all the blueberries and stuff in the Wellness foods is for the humans, not the cats.

L-lysine, the amino acid, is a good immune booster for cats. It is used to control the herpes virus in cats who are affected by the FHV-1

I have one herpes kitty. He takes l-lysine every other day as maintenance. But in times of stress or illness, I will give it to all the cats for a couple of weeks to help keep them healthy.

I also run the feliway plug in diffuser at stressful times. Stress can make cats sick, so keeping stress at a minimum, and keeping the immune system boosted when needed can help prevent illness.

I am not a vet, my information is anecdotal based on my own experiences.
