To Jasper12, ours is very verbal too. His name is Pepper. We drove him to California before. The trip was only 6 hours, but he didn't do very well. He was crying out loud and extremely stressed at first, and then calmed down a little bit.
I found a few days into my trip, that if I left early in the morning, Japser just "vocalized" his displeasure for roughly two hours. But, if I stayed in the hotel until check out time, 12, then put Jasper in his carrier, he complained for about ten minutes, then settled down to sleep.
He got to sort of lounge around the hotel room, we played with him, exercised him, held him, and pretty much wore him out in the morning, so he was glad to snuggle down in his carrier for a nap. I bought packages of thinly sliced turkey, and would give him a piece once in awhile, he really liked that.
