Here we serve everything except fish (mercury fear) and beef cause one baby barfs it up every time. The one we buy the most is chicken.

Changed to Before Grain after almost lost Oscar to Wellness fiasco.

I voted.

Never tried the quail and chicken, and like the above poster, I don't feed any fishy foods.

I wonder how much quail is in the quail and chicken? Heh. Quail is listed higher on the ingredients, though. That's cool, having different proteins available is a good idea, although that one won't help with a cat who can't have chicken.

The salmon is probably farmed (they usually brag about it when it's wild salmon), and salmon usually isn't a mercury issue if I remember right. I think it's PCBs that's an issue in farmed? Among other concerns. Mercury could be an issue in the tuna. Yeah, I don't think I would feed the seafood varieties.

Been a while since I read all that. I made a huge post several months ago where I cross checked seafood ingredients with Monterey Bay Seafood Watch. (I forgot about it until I saw it again a couple weeks ago.) There is seafood out there you should be able to feed without concern for metals or other issues. But, if I understand correctly, the domestic cat is most closely related to the desert cats, so it didn't likely evolve eating much seafood if you're looking to feed the most species-appropriate things.

I am surprised about Beef. Here I thought that would be the least popular flavor.

Beef is the only flavor out of the BG foods my Little Cat will eat. I wish she'd eat them all, the other two girls are doing so well on it (with, as always, variations using other brands)

Wow, now that is interesting.

The problem I have been having is I have been feeding both my cats Wellness and Before Grain. When I give them both, they always prefer Wellness canned over Before Grain.

Little Cat will eat the Wellness turkey about once every two weeks....if that. Offering it to her any more frequently backfires. She'll eat the BG beef about once every three or four days. She won't eat any of the other flavors of Wellness or Before Grain. The other two will eat any canned offered.

I prefer them to eat the BG over much more often than the Wellness, in part because it doesn't have the fruits and veggies Wellness has, and it is slightly lower in calories, so they can eat a little more of it, if they are so inclined.

Does the fruits and veggies help as a source of fiber and help with digestion?
