^^^ My cat just got Benadryl at the vet's. She had her shots and the vet gave it to her to avoid a reaction over the holidays. She gave her a shot. My cat is only 5 lb so I don't even know if I could make a dosage that small out of human Benadryl.

You can't break a Benadryl in half because they aren't scored (line down center of tab) and NEVER break open a capsule. If broken in half you may be giving part of the pill that doesn't have the Diphenhydramine in it. The active ingredient, Diphenhydramine could be very tiny and only in one part of the pill, so when second half is given you could be giving a full 25mg, 50mg tablet that they get all at once. The pill is a "vehicle" to get it where it needs to go to dissolve and be absorbed into blood stream as they are coated as well.

Here are the side effects of Benadryl. Buyer Be Aware: Benadryl is a Serious Drug I would not recommend it for a cat.

I'd opt for a few drops of one of Mother Nature's remedies like Goldenseal extract but only if the sneezing was really bothering the cat.

fyi= my vet suggested rubbing a little oil- like olive oil on the cut end on the pill to get rid of the bitter taste and to help it slide down the cat's throat a little easier. Haven't tried it yet, but passing the suggestion along...

You can get pill cutters that cut unscored pills nicely. I do this for 90 pills at a time, to save you taxpayers money.*

Consider the amount of any medication by the weight of the one taking it. If a 200 pound man takes one pill, how much should a 20 pound cat take? Is this a sliding scale with a flat line or is it a curve?

In other words, if you don't KNOW how much to give them, don't give them anything. Seek professional advice or try a different remedy.

*Pills from the VA.

I want to add to my comment above about adding an oil to a cut pill--- coconut oil better than olive oil... my cat likes it.
