Your story reminds me of a cat we had back in the late '90's.
One Halloween, we bought an outfit for one of our then two dogs. Oreo (cat) knew the dog for years, and watched us put the outfit on dog.
The very second the dog had the complete suit on, the cat went ballistic! He freaked, bouncing off of the living room wall, and tore his nails up, bleeding. It scared him to death. It was as though he never knew the dog!
I was left bleeding after retrieving the cat to try and calm him. Oreo was no small fellow.

We took the outfit off of the dog right away and cat was fine. But he always was (even before this incident) a frightened type animal.
Maybe you have a real 'scaredy cat.' Any number of things could have happened that seem perfectly fine for a normal kitty.

Unless he's been fixed, he wants a girlfriend! Male cats that are kept indoors do not necessarily go through life uninterested in some poontang. Some eventually will. Sorta like chimpanzees. They can be very amiable creatures for many years, then turn crabby and impossible to handle - usually males who have "come of age." Some of what you describe highly resembles a female in heat. You are sure this is a male? Toms can sometimes act just as bad. What exactly has been hanging around outside that door? Is there a queen out there calling for Toms?

Not enough info with your question. Whether it's a male or female, if the cat hasn't been spayed/neutered, that could be your problem. Even if the cat is fixed, and outside cat coming on your property would be my first guess as the cause of that behavior. If you have drapes or a curtain over the glass door, try closing it at night & see if that helps.
If your cat was an outdoor kitty at one time, or still is part time, he/she may just simply want out. That behavior is most likely stress related, and you need to find the cause of that stress.
