Looking forward to reading that you have your cat back safe and sound. I know how awful it is to lose one while you're on holiday.
I tell my pet sitter to never tell me if something goes wrong - because it will absolutely ruin my holiday.
Once I was babysitting my friends cat who ran away - I didn't tell her but I prayed and searched until I found him.
If I were you I'd never speak to that girl again. Grrr. An accident is one thing - neglligence is another - letting you know so you can worry is wrong, not searching and taking care of it is evil.

Letting them know is the only thing she did right. It enabled them to get help from neighbors who did care and decide for the husband to come home early. Without her calling them, they would have had no choice how to deal with the situation. Enjoying a vacation is nowhere near as important as that.

I hope Toby comes home safe. When I saw the picture I had to do a double take he looks just like Ailuro minus the white.

Absolutely agree. Not notifying them would have been unforgivable.
I, and many of my friends, are still praying for Toby's safe return.

yeah, sadly I agree with the side that says couldn't ever forgive her no matter what kind of person she is to you. I really think I would divorce my husband if he ever did something to my cats. He knows too LOL. I've been really lucky with cat sitters. One was a girl from my vet hospital who LOVED my Friskey and Grace. Now it's usually my mom and a professional sitter who my mom also uses and she works at a vet hospital (that I don't go to) but she knows what she is doing. My mom's neighbor has used her for years and years. She's great.
I have "nanny cam's" in my house and I can look in on my kitties whenever I want. My alarm system pages me when someone logs in or out so I can "head count" who is in the house. I'm paranoid LOL but I don't care. It gives me great peace of mind.

When I was gone once, our dog was hit by a car. I did not blame my husband, he was distraught. The dog was fine, I never saw the vet bill though...but that was an accident. This whole situation was complete negligence.
I am more inclined to forgive a family member for an oversight...then someone who was given an actual job, responsibility, and completely blew it.

Still no Toby.
I guess it's no secret that I'm the hubby in question. Still can't find the cat.
Called Animal control, the local vets, the shelters - no joy. At least no report of any cats found hurt or worse in our area, either, so there is that. Put up 40 fliers so far, put out clothes with my scent on it, staged out the patio he likes.
It's coming up on his 4th night out. I really don't know what to do, may sleep on the patio tonight. Powerless is not a good feeling at all.
