I don't know why my cat is so fearful. Maybe because she was only socialized with me and my then dog and she was only 6 weeks old when I rescued her. She was very outgoing and really bonded to the dog and wanted to cuddle up or play anytime she could. It's just me now and I'm the only human she sees except for the rare visitor. She and I are bonded, of course.

She's always been afraid of anyone else, and nothing negative has ever happened to her. She's an indoor-only kitty. Very protected, no other pets now. But she will hide if anyone else comes into the house. And she won't emerge for a good long while until after they're gone.

Silly Goyguy! My cats can't read!

Anyway, my cats are initially skittish and run away any time someone comes to the door. Including me. *sigh*

Visitors send them scurrying into the basement. If visitors have been in the house for awhile, and are relatively quiet (that excludes my niece and nephew! LOL), they will cautiously peek around the basement door into the living room, and then approach and observe from afar. After awhile longer, they might even come into the same room.

My sister was at my house for almost a week before she could pet my cats. Apparently they're very particular.

Simmy, our four year old white cat, greats everyone who comes in the house with tail held high and a leg rub. He is retarded and clueless so would never know friend from foe.
