Cat relieves itelf on sofa
My 4 year old female cat; A short haired tortie calico (spayed) has decided to urinate on my sofa. I found wet marks yesterday, and again this morning. Help! The sofa is 15 years old- and needs replaced anyway-but I am perplexed as to why this is happening. She has always used the litter box- and never been fussy about the type of litter I buy
There are several feral cats outside-could this be the problem?

She is trying to tell you something is wrong. You need to get her to a vet ASAP! That is the only way they have to tell us that something is wrong so listen to her and help her.

A bladder infection may be the problem or the simple fact that your sofa may have some smells that trigger your cats "need to pee." My experience has pointed to the infection and your Vet can correct it with antibiotics.

skytrekker--
How is your kitty?
I have a female cat, around the same age as yours. She has had a variety of issues, one of which has been some urinating on the couch. There have been times where it was cystitis, or an inflammation in the bladder, but other times, when nothing was medically wrong, we have concluded it may be behavioral. Hope all is well.

Took the cat to the Vet
took tests- negative. Vet said it is behavioral- ok she feels the need to 'mark' her territory. The outdoor ferals nearby are probably the cause of her erratic behavior.
I removed two of the three cushions- and she did not relieve herself again yesterday, or overnight.
I sat down to have wine before dinner yesterday- the cat jumped up and was acting 'guilty' and smelling between the cushions- I felt down- and sure enough they where damp.
She might have smelled something as was suggested by 7th generation. In any case the sofa will have to be replaced anyway-its over 15 years old- it was of excellent quality-so I got my money out of it- a frugal New Englander here.
I could have it re upholstered - but I would need to wait months. Back to the furniture store. Once I remove the source of the urine- things should be ok- she did not jump up this morning and soil the sofa.
