Today marks two months to the day since Seteria, the lone fugitive of Blaliko's kittens, went through TNR. (Her five siblings were all caught in time for them to be socialized and adopted.) It's unknown where she was born, or the exact date, but it would've been roughly six months ago. She's still in "catolescence," meowing and purring with sounds like a kitten - and with head and trunk to match - but with loooong legs and a big bushy tail.
When I opened the shutters in the bay window at the front of our home to start the day this morning, she was seated on the rug upright but relaxed. Her curious pale-amber eyes stayed fixed on me as always. Until then I'd only been able to convince her to briefly touch my toes - or to bump a finger with her nose, when she was off guard - before she'd follow her feral instincts and beat a hasty retreat. She'd similarly dash for safety if I succeeded in making contact with her ears, tail, etc but for one episode when I was able to pet her for a few seconds and even carry her for a short distance. (She and her mother were jockeying for space to get at a treat in one bowl, for which there was no need since I'd put some more in the other.) Today she stayed in the same spot after the sunshine started pouring indoors. And not only did she allow herself to be petted down the back from head to tail, she even gave me a couple of those jaw rubs along an index finger that cats like to do.
As the day passed she grew less "adventurous" and reverted to her skittish ways. But after the connection made in the morning I'm sure that nothing but progress will be made from now on.
