When I was younger, we had several cats who we allowed outside. They'd always eventually back home covered in soot, and so they got bathed (with warm soap and water!) in our bathtub.
Now, I have 2 cats who are strictly indoors. I have kitty wipes to clean their bottoms should they need it after they use the litter box. But I've been thinking, in general, about bathing them.
Although, honestly, if they're strictly indoors, part of me thinks there's no real reason to subject them to a bath tub with warm soap and water, and hear incessant meowing and deal with them fighting me.
So, for those of you who have strictly indoor cats, do you ever bath them? If so, why or why not?
No, we don't bathe them. They never go outside and are strictly inside kitties. They are groomed by us, and they groom each other and themselves pretty well - but I do also clean bottoms as need be either with wipes or a "butt baptism" in the utility sink if that is warranted - but it is a rarity. A "full baptism" has never been needed.
I have one indoor/outdoor cat, and have never bathed her. She is just over 2 years old, maybe closer to 3.
I don't recall ever having bathed any cat I have owned.
The last time I bathed an indoor cat was in 2004 when we rescued one of our babies who was covered in motor oil (she was saved from a scrap yard headed to the car shredder). Other than the rare need to wipe up after a fur ball incident, no baths are needed.
Both of my cats are long haired cats, but one of them consistently always seems to leave a little surprise on my carpet or hard wood floor whenever she's done. I do witness her licking herself after her litter box activities, so it's not like she isn't trying. But it's always after the licking episode that I find (eg step in) the remains of her undigested food.
Gross!
I"m gonna have to bum rush her with the kitty wipes from now on.

Trim the fur so there is no fur (or less fur) there for "things" to stick to.
As far as baths, I have 2 of the self-bathing models. They are indoor only cats.
I give my kitty baths. She loves the warm water. I can tell it's really soothing. She's very good, so it's not hard to bathe her. She smells really nice afterward and her fur is softer.
