My kitty has a cold. He's been sneezing for the last few days, now, he has clear dishcarge from his nose, and it looks red. He seems to have trouble breathing, well, a little, like snoring, and wants to keep his head propped up.

I just noticed this change in symptoms tonight, its now about 10 pm. We plan to take him to the vet first thing tomorrow, but is there anything we can do now to help his symptoms? BTW, he's an otherwise healthy, neutered male, about 20 pounds.

Thanks for any suggestions!

If your kitty isn't wanting to eat because of his stuffed nose, you can warm up some soft food in the microwave for about 5 seconds - warm food smells more.

I think like a human cold they just have to ride them out. U can call the vet & ask if there are any over he counter meds that are safe for him.

Thanks for the suggestion---its hard to tell if he's eating or not, we have 3 other cats. Plus, he's a big boy-~ 20 pounds, so any weight loss wouldn't show up right away. He just acts listless, wants to hang around me. Animals have their way of showing you when something is wrong. I will try the MW food trick!

It would sure help with money. Like with us humans, you have to learn when a doctor is necessary and when you can ride it out. I know the visit will cost ~$200+, its never less.

Might also be a URI. I have two cats being treated for it now. Last year at this time I had 10 of my cats that were affected. Let us know after your vet visit how he is. Also you may want to put him on L-Lysine.

Well....we made the mistake of bringing the cat carrier inside from the garage last night. Boo Kitty is nowhere to be found! We looked everywhere, he's hiding somewhere. I just hope he didn't get outside. with his nose clogged, his sense of smell is off and he couldn't find his way home. He's got to be somewhere 1

DH is coming home at lunch to help me find him and take him to the vet. Poor baby!

My little cat suffers periodically from colds as she had a very bad URI at 4 months. The vet may give you antibiotics depending on how bad his condition is. Apart from the Lysine (which is an excellent suggestion) you could also try putting him in a bathroom and turning on the shower - hot. The steam could be helpful in clearing up the congestion.

Best of luck!

My new cat had a cold when I brought him home a few weeks ago. So before I was able to get into the vet I gave him some vit C in the meantime.

Then when I was finally able to get him in they gave me some Azithromycin. Knocked his cold out in three days.....
