HI -

I transported two stray cats in my own carriers today -- I don't know for sure that they had fleas but it's likely. The carriers are still in my car. What should I apply to them before I bring them back inside? My own cats are in them very rarely, but I don't know how long flea "stuff" might live in them. One is a hard
plastic and the other is soft fabric.

Many thanks!

Hose down the plastic one completely and put the cloth one in the washing machine. If it can't go in the washing machine, then hose it as well and hang to dry- or skip washing it if you can put it into the dryer safely for 20 minutes. The heat will kill anything left behind.
If washing and drying is not an option, get some food grade diomtanacious earth and dust the carrier on the inside then put it into a plastic bag, new one with no holes, and tie the bag up tightly. I twist the end, fold it over and rubber band it. Leave it like that until you need to use it again.

I've used Adams which you can purchase at Walmart. You may want to read the directions regarding the soft fabric carrier.
Another good thing to do is use your Shark steamer if you have one.

Edit to add: Re the above post. You are going to want to vacuum out the above "earth" powder before putting your cat inside the carriers.
Good luck

What would the reason to need to remove the 'earth powder'? It's food grade and is the same stuff that is directly applied to animals for flea abatement.

So they don't inhale it. Save to ingest, but not safe to breathe.

I am aware inhailing it is not good, however I don't see a difference in it being embedded in an animals coat or the fabric of a carrier. Not trying to argue. Just looking for the logic.
