in between the wooden rods on the dining room chairs! He stands up on the chairs and puts his paws on the top, then sticks his head in between the rods. It is wider at the top but then he slides down and gets all freaked out because he cant get out.

You would think he would stop after the first time. Nope.

Anyone else ever dealt with anything like this?

Sorry, but no. Sounds like you may have Charlie-proof your chairs. Put something between the rods or cover them with something maybe?

No.....but I got a visual and it sounds kinda funny.....You would absolutely think after a time or two he would learn, wouldn't you? Our Peanut likes to lay on the dining room table and prop his head on the slats of the chairs - he will lay there for hours asleep on a hard, wooden table and chair. Makes my neck hurt every time I see him do that. You might need to put those cushions with the ties on your chairs to keep him out of there. Our Willie, who thinks his last name is Wallenda apparently - likes to walk along the tops of the dining room chairs and sometimes in the middle of the night I'll hear a loud crash. Now I know the sound of an oak chair hitting the floor - and I don't run fast any more - he does it at least once a week. Kids.....I tell ya!!!

When I was a toddler, I got my head stuck between the rods of the spiral staircase when we lived in Holland. Granted, I did learn after the first time. I was stuck for quite a while before they could figure out how to get my head out!

I'd definitely cat proof those chairs. He could snap his neck while freaking out when your not home.

I go along with the others. You need to somehow keep that from happening before he really freaks out one day and breaks his neck.

I suggest wrapping the back of the chair in fabric or something.

Throw the chairs out.

Get ones that are safe for your cat.

New chairs or permanently alter them, that's the only thing that's going to prevent him from getting hurt.

It is possible that you could alter them temporarily and that he would ignore them later, but temporarily would probably be months. Fabric is not bad idea, you might get by easy if you're okay using a pillowcase. You'd just have to figure out a way to anchor that properly at the bottom.

Yeah, I could see Bobbles standing up under the pillowcase if it's not secured at the bottom.
