I just moved to NYC with my loving, beautiful and funny cat IN the past, I used to leave him with my roommate whenever I had to travel.. I live by myself now in the city and just learned I have to travel but cant take him with me.. I dont know many people in Manhattan who can take care of him for 5 days, not sure how to do this? Any suggestions?

Thank you very much ad happy holidays!
You use a pet-sitting service, but you will have to pay for it. Someone to come in and feed and scoop and sometimes they play with your pets if you want.
I think your cat would be fine alone if you keep your absences to 3 days. Beyond that is too long. Is there another cat owner in your building who you could trade babysitting with?
My friend leaves her two cats all the time. She just makes sure there is lots of food out and the litter box is cleaned right before she leaves. She said the worst thing she has ever come home to was a down curtain rod. Cat's a really good at caring for themselves. You could leave the TV on so he feels like someone is there.
I have had 1 or 2 cats and felt comfortable with leaving them for a long weekend but I would NOT do it for 5 days.
Have somebody look in on him.
If you DO try it, make sure to leave several sources of water, lest he knocks one over and leave the toilet seat up and the bowl immaculately clean. We used to leave the moist food in the foil packets around the kitchen and they would rip them open and eat. Sometimes a bit difficult to get them all cleaned up when we got home.
Put in clean litter in a larger amount than usual.
I have two cats and only leave them alone for a max of 3 days. Anything beyond that you should have someone look after them. Cats are pretty self sufficient but they really shouldn't be left unattended inside for more than a few days. The litter gets disgusting (and they go outside the box when that happens), they can run out of water, they can get into trouble in the home, etc. There are a lot of pet sitting services in NYC. I recommend you do a location search on yelp.com and find one near you with good reviews.
I used to leave my cat for a few days. I leave the water running in the bathtub....enough so that there is a constant flow of fresh cool water and a few bowls of dry cat food around.
Cats are survivors. It may not be happy but it will survive.

I agree, I was planning to suggest yelp.
