My cat is now staying inside all the time, and that's a 99 3/4% drop in the flea population. I still give him his dose of Advantage once a month as precautionary measure now.
He doesn't even want to go outside now. He sits in the windows, and looks at the doors, but makes no effort to go outside anymore.
Yes, he likes it inside now. Even though he was going outside, he never went anywhere. Now he sits in the windows and "talks" to his friends that are still outside. They belong to the manager, and don't go anywhere. They just lay around. And that's what mine does inside.
If he is in his senior years (more than 16) I would discontinue the advantage. It can cause kidney failure in cats and older ones who are already developing weaknesses can be especially affected.
I have had 5 cats live to be 21-25. One who is still living is 23 and is going strong. When they became indoor cats I discontinued advantage and rabies shots.
When they were ready, they were all put down, but none of them was sick with any disease. They were over 100 years old and their bodies just gave out.
If I discontinue the Advantage, I will have fleas. Everyone where I live has fleas, and that includes the people without pets. We have grass that is not taken care of and watered, and it gets mowed when the weeds start getting high. The only reason that I don't have fleas anymore, is because I Sevindusted the carpet, and use Advantage on my cat. But since he's inside now, I'm using a lower dose on him, than when he went out. My neighbors with cats did the same thing to keep the fleas down.
Well, I spoke too soon, but it was my fault. He sneaked out yesterday, and was out for about an hour. I was putting some things outside, and apparently the door didn't catch, so he opened it with his paw and had an outing. He went to the other of the fence where he used to live, visited with his friends, and hid from because he knew he was bad. But he knows where he lives, and as soon as he walked in the door to eat, I shut it behind him.
So now he's back in the window, but an occasional outing won't hurt him if he manages to get out. And of course, he's "Advantaged."
So here's the bad boy having to sit in the corner.......

You could also move to Alaska and not give them any medication at all anymore. Its too cold here for ticks/fleas and to my knowledge we dont have heartworm mosquitoes either. That being said though you do have to worry about things like eagles or ravens potentially eating your cat, so its best to just leave them indoors. Mine doesnt leave his box.
I don't think I want to move to Alaska, too cold for me!
I'm on an island so it stays between 30 and 65 year round. Occasionally it will get above or below that but not for more than a day.
