The one segment dealt with the civil war in Syria. It illustrated the horrific human suffering and the utter brutality of the conflict, especially against children. But there was suddenly a few seconds of video of a kitten in rough shape and mewing in distress. This really upset me, for the entire evening.
Whenever I see news footage of some natural disaster, or a war going on, I always feel sad for the people involved, and almost in the same instant I think of the helpless animals caught up in it as well. It always breaks my heart.
We can't do anything to prevent natural disasters, but war is a strictly human endeavor that we can do something about.... if we only would. That makes animals suffering in a war zone even more sad. It doesn't have to happen.
