Good on all of you that oppose declawing, with that said how do you think the animals that you feed your cats with and yourself with were treated throughout their life? Declawing is a walk in the park compared to what happens to food animals.

House soiling and biting are common results to declawing. No one ever seems to make the connection to the fact that the cat had his toes amputated six months or six years ago, and now he won't use the litter box because it HURTS.

Or he bites when touched, because it HURTS to be touched (early arthritis is very common, because a cat's gait and stance is changed drastically from the amputation, regardless of the method)

Or they are moving and can't take "the cat". Or they got new furniture and the cat doesn't match. (meaning the cat's shedded fur will show up on the couch).

All these stupid reasons happen to declawed cats just as often as clawed. It's not going to make a bit of difference, because declawing does not "keep cats in homes" and it does not "save lives".
Anyone with a clawed cat that wants to declaw it will just dump it instead. All those cats that people don't want, all the cats on craigslist etc. - they will have fewer homes show up "Nope, can't declaw, I just wont get one" so all those unwanted cats and kittens out there need homes, get dumped. Basically everyone that wanted a cat but wants a declawed cat are now out of the market leaving fewer homes.

No arguments with the rest of it, I think we all know that.

As I said, this is not true. The countries that have outlawed declawing do not have this problem. People who want cats will still have cats. They will simply make more of an effort to train them, if the furniture is so important. My furniture is not clawed up at all. The scratchers are, and often have to be replaced.

Most people, once they know what declawing actually IS (10 separate amputations) opt not to declaw anyway. The vets not giving full disclosure is a huge problem. Vets are selling declaws. They offer coupon discounts ("pain meds extra"). They offer "kitten packages". They tell clients it is a "simple" surgery, "no different than spay or neuter". These, of course, are all lies, but greed has no shame.

Shelters have plenty of declawed cats, anyone who wants a mutilated cat can find one in a shelter. Declawing does NOT keep cats in homes, and it does NOT save cats' lives.

DeclAwed cats are dumped frequently, not only in shelters, but in remote areas (to be sure they won't find their way home)

Declawing benefits no one but the immoral unethical vets. They make a huge profit from every cat that amputate the toes on. Huge.

City the Kitty is sponsoring The Paw Project's desire to put a billboard in every capital in the country, help if you can, share and spread the word, even if you can't.

Education is the key to ending this evil.
